Strength-based approach is an evidence based practice that creates a climate of hope for substance abuse clients. The strength-based approach respects client’s intrinsic worth by partnering with the client to develop solutions to their problems. Strength-based is predicated on the assumption that all clients have strengths, often untapped or unrecognized and resources for their own empowerment. Moreover, engaging clients from a strength-based perspective honors the clients’ successes; recognizes the structural and cultural barriers that constraint clients’ empowerment and addresses these constraints using strategies that enable the clients’ to direct the change process. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a greater awareness of strengths each individual possess and will be able to:

OBJECTIVES:
1. Define strength-based approach
2. Identify the benefits of the strength based interventions
3. Conduct strength based assessment
4. Implement the strength- based strategies into existing treatment milieu
